I’m still alive.

I’ve just been busy.

I got married a week ago, we’ve got a honeymoon happening relatively soon, and most of this year’s been eaten by the planning of either those two things or home renovations.

I’ve been out at the markets plenty (Brimfield was fun this year, as was my home market’s season; I actually brought people there the morning after the wedding), I’ve got a bunch of stuff to share from those excursions as soon as I can properly come up for air, I even somehow managed to finish 2000 Topps Football in the middle of all of this chaos, and I’ll be trading again over the winter (Bo and I are trying to sneak one in as I type this, of course).

In the meantime, feel free to talk amongst yourselves, and here’s a Mego party. They’re back in business and making new figures, you know.  As a result, it’s gotten much busier around here since this post.

New Year, Figuring Some Stuff Out

I hope that your holidays and non-holidays went well, or if they didn’t, I hope you’re on the mend from them.

There’s nothing specific that I’m going to be writing about here today, but rather, I wanted to check in and see what subjects y’all would like to see me write about here, moving forward.

This site was born out of the wreckage of a trading card site, and I’ll certainly continue to be writing about cards as things come up (though admittedly, new product from both the physical and digital card worlds left me seriously uninspired in 2017, and I bought and acquired very little of it).

I also like writing about all 14,378,112 of my other hobbies, as well, but I’m finding that, as I have other websites (one of which being one that I’m starting to be more active on, but it’s also one I’ve consciously avoided directly connecting to this site, because I wanted some boundaries in my life), some of those subjects feel more organic elsewhere. My music listening, for instance, feels more like it belongs on my personal site than this site, just because I think to write about music there more freely and easily, so that’ll probably live over there moving forward, and those of you who want to read about it will have to read personal life stuff and occasional politics stuff and other weird, quasi-vulgar things about potato salad, too, things that I consciously do not put on this site about hobbies (though my very basic cooking adventures are becoming a bit of a hobby, admittedly).

The following other subjects, aside from the aforementioned ones (music and trading cards of either the physical or digital variety), have been covered since I launched this site, and I’m definitely curious as to which ones people would really like to see stay here:

Flea Market Trips
Tabletop Games
Comic Books
Fantasy Baseball
Video Games

These don’t include the following, which I name in my “About” section…

Musical Instruments
The Internet

…or do they include a bunch of others that I’ve never discussed here, but which I’m too tired to list all of right this second. (Recovering from a pretty nasty flu at the moment, after all. It’s taken me a few days to feel healthy enough to string together sentences at even this primitive level, but I’m getting there now.)

I take at least a passing interest in a lot of different things. Mostly, in talking about all of this here and now, I’m trying to feel you all out on which of these things you’d most like to hear more from me about. Input’s welcome and appreciated as long as it’s kind.

Aside from “a more active one”, hopefully, what sort of site would you like this to be?

The world, it done ate me.

I’ve been crazy busy, but the worst of what was scheduled to be crazy busy is done now (and hopefully, there isn’t much unscheduled crazy in the offing), and I’m actually doing hobby-type things at the moment.

Among them:

Preparing to sell a bunch of cards, from the 10,000 or so I’ve gotten in lots that I decided not to keep or already had.

Setting up a proper room for my hobby stuff, once it’s painted and whatever we decide to do to the floors there is done. (This also entails moving the literal ton of stuff I have in the room next to it, after the painting and flooring is over.)

Figuring out where my focus is going to be on these hobbies of mine, both short-term and for the forseeable future.

It’s coming along, all of this.

Oh, and if you want to get chatty with me, I am on Twitter, at @INeedNewHobbies. I should be a bit more active there in the coming days. Follow and engage!

Greetings, adventure lovers.

Some of you definitely know who I am.

For those who don’t, my name is Scott.

This web site is about my hobbies, or will be, anyway.

I have had a bunch of other web sites, and have others at present, but they either don’t focus on anything, thus mixing my hobbies in with subjects people who want to read about someone’s hobbies don’t want to read about (including things like my personal history, political beliefs, and all sorts of other stuff you may not want to talk with someone about if you’re having a conversation at a hobby shop or hobby-focused convention), or they’re too hyper-focused, so they only talk about one of my hobbies.

Eventually, I’d like to merge the latter example with this site, but for now, it’ll exist in parallel with this one.

Everything you need to know about the current scope of this site is in the admittedly overly long description that used to be right below the title when I was at Blogger:

“This site is the ongoing story of a man and his hobbies, which he apparently needs more of (or at least different ones), despite already collecting toys, comic books, trading cards, books, video games, t-shirts, music, musical instruments and movies, as well as playing tabletop games, traveling, following some sports and keeping entirely too busy on the Internet, mostly doing nothing there.”

We’ll be talking about that stuff here. Sometimes, we’ll also be engaging in commerce of some sort related to it, be it bartering or cash sales. Please, no talk about how money somehow sullies the purity of what’s written here. Thank you in advance.

With that said, I should start to make regular posts within the next week or two, once I’ve got my scanner hooked up again. Welcome aboard.
