My Year in Hobbies 2019: May!

I didn’t forget y’all! Just had some other business to tend to.

May 2019:

Visited NJ in May, hit my old local, and got a little closer to finishing ’72 Topps.

Two 1972 Topps baseball cards, one of Johnny Bench In Action (a white man wearing a grey uniform and red catching gear trying to catch a baseball with another player in the background, framed by red, yellow, and white borders), and one of Ted Williams (a white man in a red baseball cap, a blue wind breaker jacket and a white shirt, with his name written below him and "RANGERS" written about him, bordered by a yellow frame and a white outer border).

Added to my DC Direct collection a fair deal this month.

June soon, as May was quiet.

  1. I don’t pay much attention anymore to the newer action figure releases, but I see two in your group there that I might have to look into buying, The Phantom Stranger and Atom I (first costume) — my luck though, they’ll probably both be crazy expensive on the secondary market!

  2. They’re both relatively affordable! On eBay, Phantom Stranger (It’s a Mattel DC Universe Classics mail order release) hovers around $30 new in box (about what too many new figures sell for, including all of the DC Collectibles now), and Atom (which sold in a 2 pack with the 2nd costume) goes for half that or less. Lots of loose figures on eBay right now, too, if you don’t wanna pay the packaging premium (which, again, isn’t much, but could affect shipping costs).

    1. $30 is a bit steep for me, but that Atom 2-pack looks like it might be doable, and you’re right, there seems to be a lot of them on eBay right now, must not be too popular… or they just made too many of them! I also see now that they’ve made a whole bunch of JSA figures that I didn’t know about, because that’s all I needed, more toys to buy.
